Planning Review Proposal

For some years, the NCMD has been pushing for a metal detecting survey to become part of the planning process. With the technology we now have in place, we could ensure that all land that is earmarked for construction could have a detecting survey carried out by our members. This would ensure that artefacts and treasure items are retrieved and saved for posterity rather than being buried under concrete and lost forever as is currently the case.

During our recent meeting with the Heritage Minister, Baroness Twycross, this matter was discussed and as a result, we were invited to submit our proposals to a national review of the planning process.

This is something we feel passionate about, and the fact that huge numbers of items have already been lost under construction projects is in our view, a national disgrace. We are hopeful of a positive outcome but if not, we will carry on campaigning for the sake of our national heritage.
