Both Dad and I went off to one of his permissions, the field we were in had produced quite a lot for us from 20th century coins to Medieval artefacts. One of those fields that always manages to surprise you. We had been out for around 2hrs , when the trusty Nocta Simplex plus gave a nice solid tone. I flipped over the plug and scanned the hole. The object was in the plug, so I carefully picked away the soft soil with my fingers and there appeared a gold coloured circle. When I turned it over I could see it was a complete brooch with animals around it. I emailed my local FLO and included a photo. She thought it was an intriguing design and would like to say it could be early medieval but needed to see it up close, and it looks more likely to be silver gilt than gold. It’s being treated as treasure and I have an appointment tomorrow to hand it over to my local FLO.
