We have today had confirmation from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport though that groups of up to 30 from different households meeting on a dig will no longer be illegal. Whilst the Government are still advising groups should be kept to 6 or less wherever possible, they have confirmed that the legal limit has been extended to include outside activities such as ours. Obviously social distancing rules must adhered too and events must be Covid 19 secure.
We have been in regular contact with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport over the last few weeks to lobby for loosening of restrictions on our hobby. We have put forward a strong case for detectorists to be allowed to attend digs in larger numbers than the new 30 people limit. This case was accepted and shared to the cross departmental committee who are deciding which activities will be exempt from the new limits on group numbers. We thought we would have news on this by now but we are still waiting for details of the changes to legislation for lockdown from the 4th July to be published.
We will supply further details of any changes to these rules and guidance as and when we get them.
