This is my gorgeous Silver Trajan Roman Denarius (Vesta Seated). It is dated 98 - 99 AD. After nearly 8–9 years of metal detecting, I finally found a coin I’ve been hoping to find! This incredible piece of history is almost 2,000 years old. It’s a Roman silver denarius struck during the reign of Emperor Trajan, dating to AD 98–99 and was a day’s pay for a Roman legionary soldier. I still can’t believe this amazing piece of history was lying there under the ground for nearly 2,000 years waiting for the day that I would uncover it! Who was the last person to touch this coin and what stories does it hold. The reverse of this coin depicts Vesta, the Roman goddess of the hearth and sacred fire. Vesta represented the stability, security, and continuity of Rome, making her a fitting image for the coinage of a new emperor. Trajan ruled from AD 98 to 117 and is widely regarded as one of Rome’s greatest emperors.
